Or, like, 350400 minutes? Ish.
“. . .”
“Any change?” Inquired the paler woman.
“Nopers,” sighed her sister, “she’s still just staring out the window.”
Calliope frowned, “does she need a doctor? I mean, maybe we should take her to a human hospital–”
“She’s just sad, Callie, can’t you feel it? She’s sad and she doesn’t know how to be not sad, you know?”
“Well hell, how long is she going to be sad for?”
Holly shrugged, “who knows, for a long time I guess, but probably not forever…probably.”
“Can’t we do anything to help?” She gave her sister a searching look.
Holly smiled and glanced back at their friend, “yes,” she said it with the conviction that comes of Knowing Things.
“There is a place we can go, and a person we can find…”
…her smile faltered, “but I’m not sure if we should–”
Calliope scoffed, “of course we should, she’s our friend, isn’t she?”
Holly nodded, “she is, like a sister even, but…Callie, I’m not sure this way is a good idea, there’s something about it, some darkness I can’t quite make out…”
Calliope felt a prickle of gooseflesh rise at the back of her neck; it was unlike Holly to be concerned about any damn thing…but on the other hand, the sadness and the silence and the not being able to help was driving her nuts.
“Okay, well, what if we just went and had a look? I mean, we could just check out the situation at this place, and if we don’t like, we leave, deal?”
Her sister immediately brightened, “yeah! We could totes do that!…”
“…don’t you worry fren,” Holly called to the silent figure by the window, “we’re going to go find you some help!…Maybe!”
“. . .”
“Unbelievable!” Growled the woman in the pointy hat, “they know very well we have a coven ritual this evening, and there they go again! Scampering off to Goddess knows where!”
Her companion chuckled, “now now, Bella dearest…”
“…they are simply energetic young ladies, no doubt caught up in the excitement of some grand adventure; why don’t we leave off the ritual and retire to the parlour for whisky instead?”
“That’s easy for you to say, isn’t it? Your offspring knows how to behave himself!” Belladonna glared at the retreating forms of her daughters, “I should have been more careful in selecting their sires.”
“Come now my dear, cut the girls some slack…they did only just return from what was, no doubt, a very taxing journey!”
The girls’ mother sneered, “and let that be a lesson to them about fiddling with magic they aren’t prepared to handle.”
“A lesson well learned, I’m sure,” agreed her verdant-haired friend.
“Really, Primrose, you’re too forgiving,” Belladonna shot the other woman a conspiratorial glance, “and you simply wouldn’t believe what they brought home with them!…”
“…the most dreary creature you ever did see, and a human!”
“No!” Primrose grinned, “a human in your house? How ever do you bear it?”
“Right?! And it weeps constantly, and won’t say a word to anyone at all; I tell you Prim, I’m simply at the end of my rope!”
“How dreadful!” Primrose did her very best to appear sympathetic, but couldn’t help the little smile that played at the edges of her mouth.
“Well, you could try a little harder to conceal your enjoyment of my suffering,” snapped the hatted woman.
“Come now my friend! Surely you see the humour in it?” Tittered her visitor, “the great Madam Blackthorne with her weepy human guest and wayward time-travelling daughters…they’re simply not going to believe this at the next Beltane Fire!…”
“…er, where did you say they ended up again dearest?”
Belladonna sighed, “ancient Al Simhara,” she was going to be the laughing stock of May Day.
“Ancient Al Simhara!” The other Witch couldn’t restrain herself any longer and broke into a peal of laughter, “marvelous!”
Well, that settled it; she was definitely not telling Prim about the fairies…
